TTF Animal Rescue
FAQs
What is the benefit of adoption from a rescue?
Adopting from a rescue or shelter helps weaken the pet overpopulation cycle. There are simply too many animals born each year to find homes for each and every one. Your adoptions save the lives, not only of your adopted animals, but the ones who follow by creating much needed space in a shelter or rescue.
Why adopt an animal?
There are many benefits from owning a pet. Regular play with pets can decrease blood pressure, help manage loneliness and depression by providing companionship and increased exercise. Petting an animal has been shown to lower stress levels within minutes. Evidence is also supporting the exposure to household pets during childhood will help lower the risk of allergies and asthma.
Owning a pet is tied to many of our core memories as children and adults. By caring for a pet, life lessons are learned in responsibility, empathy, compassion and love. Adoption saves the life of an animal and they will provide a lifetime full of fun memories for you and your family.
Why adopt from TTF animal rescue?
All our rescues are pulled from shelters across Southern California. The fosters return these kittens to a healthy condition so they can be adopted to their forever home. All TTF kittens are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. They are fostered in a home, are socialized and exposed to other pets and/or children.
I want to adopt an animal. What do i need to do first?
The first step in adopting any TTF rescue animal is to fill out an application under our adoptions page. Upon completion, one of our adoption coordinators will be in contact with you shortly.
How Long Does the Process Take?
It can be as little as 1-2 days. After filling out our online adoption application, our adoption coordinators review the application and reach out to speak with the applicant directly. The application allows us to help you choose the right pet for you and your family. Upon approval, an interaction will be scheduled directly with the foster family. It is at this time, the pet’s foster family can provide more information about your potential pet and if everyone is in agreement, the new family member can come home the same day. Depending on the pet and situation, a home check may be scheduled to determine if there are any inadvertent dangers in your home. We want to make sure you, your family, and the pet are the best fit possible as this is a commitment for the animal’s lifetime.
How Much Does Adopting Cost?
Kittens under 6 months have an adoption fee of $175.00. Older kittens/cats have reduced adoption fees. There rescue may periodically have reduced fees throughout the year on certain kittens or when the rescue becomes overcrowded. This covers the cost of medical treatments, initial vaccines while in TTF care, microchipping, any necessary veterinary visits and spay/neuter.
Can i meet the animal without an application?
No, our organization is all volunteer based. We work to the best of our ability to pair the animal and the family who best compliment each other. When you are approved, the foster will reach out to your family to set up an interaction time where you can then meet the animal and adopt them at this time.
How long will it take for someone to get back to me about my application?
TTF is an all volunteer organization but frequently it may take a few hours to a day or two to get back to you and/or your family about an application. It is situational depending on the number of animals we currently have up for adoption and the number of applications we are sorting through to find the right fit for the right family.
I placed an application for an animal but now the animal is no longer on the website.
All our animals are adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some cats and kittens may receive many applications and we look for the best fit for both the animal and the family. If the animal is no longer listed on the website, it means this animal has found a forever home. There will be many more adoptable animals throughout the year and we may already have the perfect animal for your family if you are open to animals with specific personality traits and not necessarily one look or breed.
What Is the Difference Between Adopting and Fostering?
Adoption is a lifetime commitment to the animal. They will become a member of your family and live with you in their forever home.
Fostering is a short term commitment and can last a matter of days to possibly a few months depending on the cat or kittens individual situation. Your home will serve as a stop before they find their forever home.
Why should I foster with TTF Animal Rescue?
TTFAR has volunteers with the knowledge and abilities to foster kittens and cats who need time
to grow, develop, and heal before they are ready to find their forever family and home. Underage
kittens are the most euthanized group of animals in the shelter system. With too many kittens
arriving at the shelters with too few resources to care for these babies, help is needed. Our team will work with you to create a positive experience fostering and providing guidance on any questions you may have along the way.
Will I need Additional Veterinarian Services?
When a TTF cat or kitten is adopted out, all medical conditions will be disclosed at the time of adoption. Kittens will need to continue their vaccine schedules until they reach an appropriate age to begin maintenance immunizations. Some of our animals are special needs and will need follow up veterinary services, which will also be disclosed prior to your interaction with the cat or kitten.
I want to help but cannot foster.
There are many ways to help which don’t always include fostering. We need volunteers to help run the many other aspects of a successful rescue. Volunteers are needed to make donation runs, help create videos or write grants. If you are so inclined, TTF has Amazon and Chewy wish lists, even a monetary, tax-deductible donation will all help animals in TTF’s care.
What types of donations does TTF need?
TTF animal rescue currently has an Amazon & Chewy wishlist. You can also make a tax deductable cash donation to our Venmo account. We are always in need of litter, kitten food both wet and dry, beds, and of course monetary donations.
